Paediatric Dermatology

As a dermatologist, I specialise in treating children’s skin, hair, and nail concerns with a gentle, child-friendly approach.

Here are some of the common conditions seen in children:

Molluscum Contagiosum

A viral skin infection causing small, flesh-coloured or pink bumps, often with a central dimple. It’s common in young children and spreads through skin contact or contaminated objects. While it often resolves on its own, treatments like cryotherapy or topical medications can speed recovery.

Warts

Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), warts appear as small, rough bumps, often on the hands or feet. In children, they are common and may resolve naturally, but persistent warts can be treated with cryotherapy, salicylic acid, or other options.

Eczema

Atopic dermatitis is a common chronic skin condition in children, presenting as dry, red, or darkened itchy patches. Moisturising and avoiding triggers like harsh soaps or allergens are key to managing symptoms.

Heat Rash (Miliaria)

Heat rash occurs when sweat ducts get blocked, leading to tiny, itchy bumps, especially in warm or humid conditions. Keeping the skin cool and dry is the best way to prevent and manage it.

Cradle Cap (Seborrhoeic Dermatitis)

Seen in infants, cradle cap causes scaly, yellowish patches on the scalp. It’s harmless and usually resolves with gentle washing and moisturisation.

Skincare for Kids

Children’s skin is sensitive and requires gentle care. Using fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products, and regular sunscreen application, are essential to maintain healthy skin.

Other Conditions

Children may also experience conditions like hand, foot, and mouth disease, impetigo (bacterial skin infection), or ringworm (fungal infection). Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent complications and reduce spread.

If your child has a skin concern, I’m here to provide expert care and advice tailored to their unique needs.
